Due to the energy crisis in South Africa, Tongaat installed a generator to power their entire plant in the event of a power failure from the main grid. The national power utility wanted to buy the power from Tongaat if they had additional power or did not use their power. In order to do this, the generator had to be connected to the grid.
Hamar Controls was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and install the switchgear and controller for the automatic change over between the generator and the grid. Part of the scope also included the supply and installation of the cabling between the generator and the main board that was connected to the grid.
