KUSILE POWER STATION COAL AND ASH TERRACE LIGHTING AND SMALL POWER

As part of the ever-increasing need for power, South African power giant ESKOM started to build the Kusile power station. Except for the main equipment required for a coal fired power station, lightning and small power must also be considered for the plant efficiency and safety aspect.

Hamar Controls won a contract from Tenova Takraf Africa for the installation of lighting, small power and auxiliaries on the coal and ash terraces for units 2 to 6 at Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga.

The project scope is somewhat challenging in terms of the position of the equipment and the stringent requirements of industrial project controls, but the most challenging is time management on an ever-extending timeline and interfacing with our client to achieve acceptable solutions for both client and contractor within the environment. Together with our client we have managed to maintain a healthy working relationship through difficult times. Work is complete on units 2 and 3 and work is well under way on unit 4 with unit 5 following closely behind unit 4.
