BULK SULPHUR EXPORT FACILITY AT PETRONAS RAPID PROJECT IN MALAYSIA
Sulphur is a by-product in an oil refinery and Petronas intended to store and sell the sulphur at their RAPID project in Malaysia. The sulphur will be transported by truck from the pelletising plant, imported to a stockpile and exported to a ship to sell to the market.
Hamar Controls was awarded the contract and started in 2017 with the design of the electrical, control and instrumentation scope on a bulk sulphur export facility for the new refinery. The scope of work from our customer Demcotech was for the design, project management, procurement, supply, installation and commissioning of a truck offloading hopper, a feeder conveyor, stacker conveyor, reclaim conveyor, pipe conveyor and ship loading conveyor for the stockpiling and export of sulphur produced by the refinery. The scope further included the installation only of the electrical, control and instrumentation equipment and cabling for a stacker, reclaimer and a ship loader.
Some of the larger challenges on this project was the specific documentation and drawing requirements from the end user, FAT testing without end user attendance and working with the labour force in Malaysia. Despite these challenges the successfully completed project was handed over to Demcotech in February 2019.
